Abstract
This master’s thesis work was performed for a six-month internship at a company that develops Artificial Intelligence solutions. The work presented in the next chapters, documents the development and integration of advanced features for time series forecasting within a specialized framework. This tool has also been enhanced with the inclusion of new deep learning models.
Among the different features implemented in this framework are: a time data encoding mechanism and a time series cross validation tool. The first allowed to integrate in the data to be analyzed all the temporal information, so that the model could have knowledge of this type of information. The cross validation tool, on the other hand, is used before the training phase to evaluate the forecasting model more efficiently and realistically.
The real focus of the work, however, was the introduction of new deep learning models within the time series forecasting framework. The first of the two, TimesNet, is based on the convolution technique, effective in capturing the temporal interdependence of time series. The other model uses as its main tool the structure of a transformer, the technology that in recent years has revolutionized the world of deep learning. This second model has the ability to capture the long-term time dependencies of a time series and to interpret even the most complex sequences.
The thesis in analysis aims to analyze the methodologies used and the results obtained in the field of time series forecasting, through a framework highly specialized in this field of deep learning.
