Vehicle handling performance is characterized by two domains of testing methodologies, objective and subjective. Objective testing methodologies rely on standardized manoeuvre and testing conditions to ensure repeatability. The test data analysis procedures are also standardized, enabling consistent and comparable Key Performance Indicators obtained (KPIs) across different vehicles or for assessing the impact of specification in the same vehicle. Several standardized manoeuvres, such as Step Steer, Sine Sweep, Ramp Steer, Brake in Turn are mentioned in the ISO 15037 – 1. However, none of these manoeuvres effectively simulate severe combined motions—where both longitudinal and lateral accelerations are present - as encountered in a corner-exit state of a vehicle (Power-On). This thesis focuses on developing a testing methodology for Power-On, defining associated KPIs and integrating them into Pirelli’s internal vehicle dynamics post processing (P3) tool. The post processing of test data ensures that the manoeuvre is executed correctly and generates a standardized set of KPIs to characterize both the steady-state behavior and the transient dynamics when Power-On is initiated.
