Riassunto analitico
The aim of this master thesis, whose activities have been accomplished in cooperation with CNH Industrial Modena, is to investigate the use of a 77 GHz MIMO FMCW radar and the compensation of its non-idealities, and to devise signal processing algorithms for range estimation. The main contributions provided by this thesis can be summarized as follows. As far as the radar use is concerned, a software toolchain allowing us to easily manage the radar output is developed, and a simple technique for mitigating the effect of direct coupling between distinct antennas of the radar array is derived and tested. Moreover, the exploitation of the virtual concept to create a virtual antenna array wider than than the physically available array is analysed. The developed work on range estimation, instead, concerns the development of an accurate frequency estimation method based on the use of fast Fourier transform and iterative cancellation in the frequency domain. The accuracy of the proposed estimation method is assessed by means of computer simulations.
