Riassunto analitico
The following dissertation aims to offer a thorough review of the last two decades, thus focused on the events occurred from the early 2000 to this date. The thematic areas discussed are those strategic and managerial decisions for which the Fiat Group (now part of Stellantis) still appears fragile, exposing production activities in Italy to the risk of an everlasting downward trend. A further investigation focused on the most recent period is especially relevant, given that during the last twenty years the majority of strategic pillars of the company underwent drastic change. Production sites offshoring, lack of commitment in R&D activities, failed attempts of brand repositioning, cut in product portfolio, extension of the average product life cycle are all facets of the complex multidimensional decline that characterizes most brands of the group. A comparison between FIAT and foreign competitors will also be useful to understand the different paths followed by the management, and whether the choices made proved to be beneficial or detrimental.
